Keep Calm and Carry On

As of about 1PM EST this afternoon of March 11th, the World Health Organization has officially labeled the spread of COVID-19 a pandemic. As a result the markets have been and probably will continue to be volatile. None of us can see into the future. While we may soon be able to look at the past and say this is/was a great buying opportunity, that is also a matter of perspective (i.e., how close are you to retirement?)

We manage five different risk adjusted portfolios for our managed money clients. Today we liquidated our small cap positions in the portfolios that hold that position. We may liquidate other positions as warranted.

That being said, we have far more clients who have opted for less volatile alternatives to the global equity markets. Offense gets you to retirement, and defense gets you through it.
